What the heck is an EA? (or did you just mis-spell CPA?)
Enrolled Agents (EAs) are America's Tax Experts! EAs have been around since the Civil War and are the only federally licensed tax practitioners who specialize in taxation with unlimited rights to represent taxpayers before the IRS. The enrolled agent came about in 1884 when, Congress passed the Horse Act to regulate persons assisting citizens filing claims for reparations against the U.S. Government for property commandeered during the war effort. This function was expanded to include the income tax when the 16th amendment was ratified in 1913. In fact, until 1936, both attorneys and CPAs were required to sit for the Enrolled Agent exam in order to practice before the IRS.

Another little-known advantage of using an Enrolled Agent is “client privilege”, which allows confidentiality between the taxpayer and the enrolled agent under situations involving audits and collection matters.
